</span>
<span>

The Peace Garden, located on the campus of Saugus High School, was dedicated in 2016 after two years of study and work by the SCV Sunrise Rotary and the Rotary Interact Club, sponsored by the SCV Rotary Club. The purpose of the garden is to serve as an area of meditation, discussion, and education in implementing peaceful conflict resolution. In 2016 a grant from Rotary District 5280 provided the impetus to purchase the garden’s centerpiece, a gigantic boulder inscribed with the guidelines for Peace Garden discussions: the Rotary Four-Way Test. The test, adopted by Rotary International in 1942, is an ethical behavior model for all Rotarians, and by association for the Rotary Interact members as well. It reads: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

After the tragic Saugus shooting took place in November, 2019, the SCV Rotary Club and the Saugus High School Interact Students (Rotarians in High School) came together in 2020 to plan a tribute to the two students who lost their lives during this horrible event, Gracie Anne Muehlberger and Dominic Blackwell. The tribute will include the purchase and installation of several buddy benches and the development of a colorful and peaceful garden. We are purchasing two plaques, one in memory of Gracie and Dominic, and the other to replace the broken “4 Way Test” plaque, which has gone missing. Total cost to beautify, add new benches, add new plaques and repair The Peace Garden bolder is $6,000.

In 2005, Rotary International celebrated its 100th birthday and SCV Rotary president, Jim Lentini, who had been working on our club’s birthday salute for over a year, was proud to cut the ribbon on the newly completed Centennial Garden in ceremonies held on February 23rd.

The garden, which overlooks the pools at the SCV Aquatic Center off Soledad Canyon Road, features tiles dedicated to local military heroes, as well as local officials, businesses, and citizens. The City of Santa Clarita has been a partner of the project since its inception, providing the land and the upkeep.

<span>
<span>

Today, the garden is in need of repairs from skateboard damage to the benches and landscaping. Current Rotary President Glenn Terry has launched a fund-raising sale of garden tiles to help repair the damage and install beautiful hand rails to protect the concrete benches. Mr. Terry is also applying for a city grant to help with the project and the city will be replanting new foliage around the garden during the fall. The biggest expenses are the hand rails and repairs to existing community tiles already purchased from its inception. The total project cost to repair and add rails is $10,000. we hope to secure the cities $5,000 grant to help with these expenses. Please help us with this worthy community project by purchasing a new tile or a donation of any quantity.

Members of the community may participate in the project by purchasing new tiles, which can be engraved with their personal names, business names, or those of family and friends. The tiles come in three sizes: 12”x12”, $1000 each, and 8”by8”, $300 each, and 8”x24”, $2,000 each.

Rotary is dedicated to improving the lives of mother’s and children. One way we do that is by giving textbooks to schools and kids who need them. For instance, last year when a local private school had to close it’s doors, Rotary rescued thousands of books from destruction and redistributed them.
